About

In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety

– Abraham Maslow

Nice to meet you, I'm Sara.

I began my psychotherapy training in 2018, and since then have worked across numerous therapeutic settings, including schools, charities and Employer Assistance Programmes (EAPs). It has been both a privilege and a rich development opportunity to work with so many different client groups, who had a variety of reasons for attending therapy. The learning I take from these diverse experiences informs my private practice and ensures I can work with clients from any walk of life, whatever their reason for seeking therapy.

Along the way, I realised that traditional therapeutic approaches sometimes unwittingly exclude groups or communities that need support the most. In particular, I found that neurodivergent folks often found traditional talking therapy – and therapists – didn’t account for the processing differences they experience, how emotions live in their bodies, and the challenges they might face in expressing them. Therapy was, in some instances, compounding these struggles, rather than helping with them.
Similarly, clients with diverse gender identities were feeling misunderstood not only in the world, but in the therapy room, too.

Therapy itself is not inherently affirming. Like anybody, therapists need to work to educate themselves and challenge the unconscious bias that can get in the way of us truly seeing, valuing and accepting someone exactly as they are. I encourage all of my clients to show up in this way, and to challenge me if, and inevitably, when, I get things wrong. In this way, I hope to create an environment that is truly safe.

My professional memberships and clinical supervision.

Psychotherapy is not a regulated profession in Denmark, and so it is hugely important that psychotherapists have membership with an ethical body which has robust entry requirements for education and experience.

I am a full member of the Dansk psykoterapeutforening (The Danish Association of Psychotherapists DPF), which enables me to use the title Psykoterapeut MPF. This title is the guarantee to my clients that I have the skills needed to provide the right support. Furthermore, I am required to:

  • to stay professionally updated
  • to receive regular supervision
  • to comply with the association’s rules of ethics

The ethical rules help ensure that psychotherapy is carried out in a qualified and professional manner. If a member does not comply with the rules, the client has the opportunity to submit a complaint, which is processed by the association’s ethics committee.

In addition, I work with a clinical supervisor who oversees the work that I do with my clients and offers advice and guidance.

The benefits of online therapy.

  • Comfort and convenience. With online therapy you do not need to travel or spend time in waiting rooms. You just log in from a private space and connect securely to our session on Zoom. Meeting in this way can be especially helpful if you are managing anxiety, mobility challenges or a busy routine.
  • More choice. Working online means you are not limited by geography. You can choose a therapist who truly meets your needs, even if they are in a different city or country.
  • Continuity of Care. If you are travelling, relocating or managing unexpected life changes, therapy can continue online seamlessly without any interruptions.
  • Flexibility. Online therapy offers a discreet and flexible way to access support according to what suits you best.
  • Privacy and professionalism. Online therapy is delivered with the same levels of confidentiality and professionalism as in-person sessions.

In crisis?
While online therapy can be an accessible form of support for many, it may not always be the most appropriate option for individuals experiencing active suicidal thoughts or for those in crisis.
In this instance, please reach out to a crisis line. In Denmark, you can call 112 for urgent help, or contact Livslinien at 70 201 201 for confidential support.
